Adolescents

Common Concerns Young People Bring To Therapy

  • Anxiety, panic, or feeling overwhelmed

  • Low mood, self-harm, or thoughts of not wanting to be here

  • Difficulties with friends, family, or feeling isolated

  • Pressure at school, exams, or around the future

  • Questions about identity, gender, or belonging

  • Changes in eating, sleep, or energy

  • Past experiences that still affect you, even if you don’t talk about them

Adolescents often find it hard to put feelings into words. Therapy can help uncover what’s going on beneath the surface — whether it’s shown in mood, behaviour, or just a sense of unease. Sometimes we talk; sometimes we use creative or non-verbal ways to explore what’s going on.

My approach is thoughtful and respectful. I take time to understand what life feels like for you, and work at a pace that feels safe. For parents and carers, I may also offer regular check-ins or support, depending on what’s needed and agreed.

If you’re wondering whether therapy could help, I offer a free 20-minute consultation. It’s a chance to ask questions, talk through concerns, and see if it feels like the right next step.

Clinics in Ayrshire, Glasgow, and Edinburgh. In-person and online sessions are available.

Adolescence is a time of intense change — in your body, your mind, your identity, and your relationships. It can be exciting and full of possibility, but also confusing, lonely, or overwhelming. You might be struggling with feelings that are hard to explain, facing pressure at school or online, or dealing with changes in friendships, family, or how you see yourself.

Therapy offers a space where you don’t have to have everything figured out. It’s a place to talk — or just think — with someone who will listen without judgement, help you make sense of what you’re feeling, and support you in finding ways to cope and move forward.

I work with adolescents aged 12 and up. Some come with specific problems; others just feel low, stressed, or stuck. You don’t need a label or diagnosis to come to therapy — if something doesn’t feel right, it’s okay to ask for support.
